[1Day] Discovering Duong Lam Ancient Village (Hanoi)
Duong Lam Ancient Village is known as a land of orgin, embodying the root values of Vietnamese people in many aspects such as architecture, culture, and cuisine. It is only village in Vietnam that still retains almost all public structures from communal houses, temples, church, gate, shrines and nearly 1,000 ancient houses.
Highlight
Ancient Houses
The village is home to over 900-year-old laterite houses, built using a unique reddish-brown stone found in the area.
Many of these houses are 300–400 years old and still inhabited by local families.
Mong Phu Communal House
Built in the 17th century, this is the spiritual and cultural center of the village.
It features traditional wooden architecture and serves as a gathering place for village events.
Temples and Pagodas
Ngo Quyen Temple & Tomb – Dedicated to Ngo Quyen, the national hero who defeated the Chinese in 938 AD, leading to Vietnamese independence.
Phung Hung Temple – Honoring Phung Hung, another national hero from the 8th century.
Mia Pagoda – Famous for its 287 ancient Buddha statues, some dating back to the 17th century.
Traditional Culture & Handicrafts
Duong Lam villagers still practice traditional farming, soy sauce making, and rice wine production.
Visitors can experience local cuisine, including specialties like che lam (sticky rice ginger snack), keo lac (peanut candy), and banh te (rice cake).
Scenic Countryside
Surrounded by lush rice fields and small alleys, Duong Lam provides a peaceful escape from Hanoi’s bustling city life.

Northern Vietnam Culture Experience Tour
07h:30: Pick you up at Hanoi the Old Quarter, drive 50km to Duong Lam Ancient Village
09h:30: Warmly welcome you at Ngo Quyen tomb and Phung Hung Temple. Walking around two of these places with a long history and stories about two famous Kings in Vietnamese.
09h:40: Move to the village by electric car. We will walk to visit public structures and ancient houses. You will admire an ancient village 300 - 400 years olds, along with cultural, architectural, and historical stories of a rural Northen Delta region.
11:30: After walking, you will have a foot bath with salt, herb and enjoy tea with traditional candy of the village.
12:00: Lunch break at Doai Community - an art exhibition space
14:00: Watch shadow puppetry show, you can see the art of performing shadow by village actors, and learn about historical figures of the village
15:00: You get a creative experience with materials that convey the village’s culture such as drawing/ sculpting on ancient tiles, decorating fish tag. Or making traditional candies such as peanut candy or Vietnamese nutty ginger sticky rice bars
16:00: Comeback to Hanoi, ending the Tour.
