Bac Ha market preserves many traditional cultural features and colors in the lives of ethnic minorities in the Northwest highlands, located 110 km from Sapa in Bac Ha town.
Bac Ha market is held every Sunday and attracts tourists from many places to visit and is rated by foreign magazines as the most unique market in Southeast Asia. The market is unique and full of traditional cultural features and colorful life of the Mong, Tay, Nung, Dao, Phu La ethnic groups. People from remote villages come early in the morning to trade, exchange and buy unique products of the highlands. Coming to “Bac Ha white plateau”, tourists will be able to explore and experience the unique and attractive features of life and customs of the people here. On market days, ethnic minorities will be busier on the streets than usual to buy household items and local specialties.

7:00 - 7:30: Depart from Sapa to Bac Ha
Car and local guide will pick you up at your place then start the market trip.The journey from SaPa to Bac Ha is about 100 km long, passing through mountain passes with majestic and breathtaking scenery. You will go through winding roads, where mountains, forests and valleys stretch below. If you go early, you can admire the dawn gradually appearing, the fog lingering on the hillsides, creating a beautiful natural picture.
9:30 - 11:30: Arrive and visit Bac Ha Market
Upon arrival, you will see the bustling Bac Ha Market with diverse colors from traditional costumes of ethnic groups such as H'Mong, Dao, and Phu La. The market is divided into many areas and the local guide will explain for you about the type of local market here.
Agricultural area: Selling vegetables, fruits, natural agricultural products such as corn, potatoes, cassava, and Bac Ha specialties.
Livestock area: This is a very bustling and crowded place for trading buffalo, cows, pigs, chickens, etc. Many people come here to buy buffalo for plowing or for meat, creating a noisy but fun atmosphere.
Brocade and handicraft area: You will see brocade clothes with meticulous, colorful hand-embroidered patterns, as well as unique handicrafts such as silver jewelry, knives, traditional musical instruments.
Food court: You can enjoy typical rustic dishes such as thang co (horse meat dish), vermicelli, banh chung, banh day, or try Bac Ha corn wine - a famous traditional wine of the H'Mong people.
You can visit, shop, chat with locals to learn more about local products and culture. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of the highland people.
11:30 - 12:30: Have lunch at the market or local restaurant
After visiting the market, you will stop to enjoy lunch at the market or choose a small restaurant nearby.
You can try the local food or especially Thang co - one of the attractive traditional dishes of the H'Mong people. The dishes are cooked right at the market, have a very unique flavor, preserving the identity of the Northwest mountains and forests.
12:30 - 14:30: Visit Hoang A Tuong mansion
Hoang A Tuong mansion is located not far from Bac Ha market, an ancient architectural work built in the 1920s. The mansion was built for a Tay lord during the French colonial period, combining Asian - European architecture, with French architecture mixed with unique Asian features.
Entering the mansion, you will see a large building with corridors and elaborate decorative motifs. This is an ideal place to take photos and learn about the history of Bac Ha land.
14:30 - 16:30: Explore Pho village and brocade village
Pho village is one of the villages famous for the traditional corn wine making of the H'Mong people. You can visit a family or wine making facility to see the corn wine production process - a specialty wine with a unique flavor of the Bac Ha highlands.
Local people are often very enthusiastic in inviting guests to try it and explaining the wine making process. If interested, you can buy a bottle as a gift. In addition, if you have time, you can visit a nearby brocade village to learn about the H'Mong people's hand-weaving process.
16:30 - 19:00: Return to Sa Pa
After a long day of exploring, you will depart for Sa Pa. On the way back, you can admire the hills and the sunset over the villages.
End of the journey: You will arrive in Sa Pa around 19:00, in time to rest, enjoy a cozy dinner and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the town. Have a nice trip!!!
